Original examples, clearly labeled
Sample obituaries use fictional people and circumstances. They are labeled as fictional wherever they appear. Template prompts are intentional blanks for the reader to complete, not facts supplied by this website.
We do not copy a real family’s obituary and change the names. Material quoted from an external source must be attributed, and any borrowed factual guidance should link to an appropriate source.
Facts and service arrangements
Template wording must not presume a cause of death, military honors, religious beliefs, family relationships, or the circumstances of someone’s final moments. Those details belong in a tribute only when accurate and appropriate to share.
Official processes, eligibility rules, publication requirements, and fees should be confirmed with the relevant organization. External guidance is linked where it helps the reader; the website does not make eligibility decisions.
Privacy and inclusive language
Guidance should help readers recognize chosen family, nontraditional relationships, and different beliefs without imposing a single family structure. Pronouns and names should reflect the person and the family’s wishes.
Examples should not encourage publication of private addresses, unnecessary identifying details about children, unconfirmed medical information, or sensitive relationship history.
Corrections and meaningful updates
Corrections should be reviewed and applied to both the web page and its downloadable documents. Dates should reflect genuine publication or substantive revision, not an automatic freshness signal.
An editorial approval is not a permanent guarantee. Templates and technical dependencies should be checked periodically, and errors should be corrected promptly. Do not send private obituary drafts with a general correction request.
